Dr. Aimee Eyvazzadeh, a reproductive endocrinologist we partner with on fresh and frozen cycles for her patients, sat down with author and advocate Victoria Niño, who had a child with eggs from our frozen egg bank. Their conversation turned to how the fertility industry is moving toward more open donation, and to the part Donor Nexus has played in that shift.

It is not often you hear a conversation this special, with one woman caring for patients in the clinic and the other living the experience as a mother, and it left our whole team feeling proud of them both, and grateful that our name came up in a discussion that matters this much to the families we serve.
What Dr. Aimee shared about Donor Nexus
Dr. Aimee began by saying how glad she is to see the industry embracing openness between donors and the families they help create, and then she spoke about her own experience working with our team.

She explained that even before open donation was widely discussed, Donor Nexus was willing to introduce her families to their egg donors, and that the donors said yes when those introductions were requested. Recognition like this means a great deal coming from a physician who guides patients through donor egg decisions, and we're grateful to Dr. Aimee for sharing it with her audience.
Asking donors instead of assuming
For our coordinators, supporting openness often starts with simply asking. When an intended parent is hoping for some level of contact, we reach out to the donor to learn what she's comfortable with rather than treating anonymity as the only option, and because Donor Nexus offers both Non-ID and Open ID options, each match can reflect what feels right to the donor and to the family.
Victoria's experience as a Donor Nexus intended parent
Victoria saw this firsthand when she worked with our Frozen Egg Bank. She wanted a donor who would be open to contact, so our team checked with her ideal donor about her comfort level before Victoria made her choice. In the full episode, she shares that she and her donor began communicating after her first trimester, and that the connection became especially valuable later, when a family medical history question came up, and her donor was able to answer it quickly.

In the clip, Victoria also puts into words something many intended parents have wondered: "Can we just ask the donors?" She believes a lot of donors are open to contact but have simply been told that anonymity is how donation works, and she notes that you can't really even use the word anonymous anymore, which reflects how much consumer DNA testing has changed things for donor-conceived families.

A note on donor contact
Donor Nexus offers both Non-ID and Open ID donors, and we do not present either one as the better choice. Open ID means a donor has agreed to some form of contact, while Non-ID means she has chosen to keep her information private, and both reflect decisions the donor made for herself. Whether contact happens, what it looks like and when it begins is something each intended parent works out alongside their donor and our team.
